Forging Methods & Processes

Open-die and closed-die forging are supported using both hot and cold forging processes. Method selection is based on material type, component geometry, and functional requirements to achieve the required strength and dimensional control.

Materials & Component Control

Forging is carried out using steel, aluminum, brass, and copper. Component size, geometry, and achievable tolerances are governed by the selected forging method and die design.

Size Capability & Tolerances

Maximum forging size supported is 60 mm × 110 mm in length. Typical achievable tolerances are up to ±0.05 mm, depending on part geometry, material, and process configuration.

Lead Times & Capacity Planning

Raw material procurement typically requires approximately four weeks, followed by forging lead times of around one week. Capacity and scheduling are planned based on material availability, forging method, and die configuration.

Forging Services at MMI

We carry out forging using mechanical and hydraulic presses to produce precision components in low carbon steel, aluminum, brass, and copper. Mechanical presses support high-speed, repeatable production, while hydraulic presses are used for controlled force and complex geometries. Forging methods including open die, closed die, drop forging, press forging, and forward and backward extrusion are selected based on material behavior, part geometry, strength requirements, and production volume. Forging programs support prototype, low-volume, and production requirements based on customer specifications. Die design and maintenance are handled in-house to maintain repeatability and dimensional consistency. Forging is executed in line with customer drawings, tolerances, and delivery conditions, with post-forging operations such as machining, drilling, tapping, heat treatment, and surface treatment supported where specified.

Defect Management

  • Root Cause Analysis: Non-conformities are investigated to identify underlying causes and prevent recurrence
  • Die Revalidation: Forging dies are reviewed and revalidated following defects or process changes
  • Rework and Reprocessing: Non-conforming parts are reworked or reprocessed where permitted by specification, with all actions documented and verified prior to release
  • Corrective and Preventive Actions: Corrective and preventive actions are implemented to maintain process stability and quality compliance
