This new capability makes MMI a one-stop shop for original equipment manufacturers (OEMs).

Stainless and Inconel O-rings from MMI

Stevensville, Md. (PRWEB) December 13, 2016Michigan Manufacturing International (MMI) announced today that it recently added new stainless steel and Inconel® seal ring production to its impressive list of capabilities. With this new service, technicians can now provide precision welding, making MMI a one-stop shop for original equipment manufacturers (OEMs).

Stainless and Inconel® O-rings from MMI can be used for applications such as pressure control valves where non-metallic seals are not suitable or will not be reliable due to factors such as temperature or pressure. These long-lasting rings fabricated by MMI are made so the seam is indistinguishable from the rest of the ring. In addition to the standard profiles, MMI can design seals to meet the customer’s specifications. Stainless and Inconel® rings are used in various applications in the oil and gas, chemicals, plastics, aerospace, and semi-conductor industries.

Jacob Prak, CEO of MMI, mentioned that the company is growing and evolving to meet its customers’ needs. “Our goal is to design the most effective and highest quality solutions for our customers. Adding this new service helps ensure that we can provide the best solution for the intended use, customized according to the specific application. Ring making is one more way that we can partner with our customers to design, manufacture, and deliver solutions to challenging equipment situations.”

Michigan Manufacturing International (MMI) Celebrates 25 Years of Growth and Success

MMI specializes in supplying manufactured to print assemblies and components to original equipment manufacturers (OEMs).

Stevensville, MD. (PRWEB) June 22, 2016 — Michigan Manufacturing International (MMI) announced today that it is celebrating 25 years in business. Headquartered in Stevensville, Maryland, the company has enjoyed steady growth over the years and currently employs 80 people.

MMI was founded in 1991 in Michigan by Jacob Prak. A former applications engineer for GE Plastics and SKF USA, his initial goal was to help solve his customers’ supply and design problems. This mission has carried on through to the present. When the company moved to Maryland in 1998, the name remained the same. A number of moves were necessary as the operation outgrew each location. In November 2013, MMI built a 40,000 square foot building and currently occupies 12,000 square feet of that space.

In the early days, MMI served customers in Michigan and Ohio. Later the service area extended to Pennsylvania and Maryland. Currently MMI has customers across the nation with an additional manufacturing facility in India. Originally MMI offered only components; today the company concentrates on assemblies and whole products that solve its customers’ design and supply challenges.

Technology has played an important role in the growth of MMI and it has impacted all facets of the organization, especially communication. Prak said that the company’s proprietary MRP/CRM web-based system has made the current business model possible.

When asked about his plans for the future of MMI, Prak said, “The market for manufactured goods is changing drastically. We plan to grow by continuing to build our knowledge concerning the best options for supply chain management and providing the best high-quality products and services to our customers.”

2016 U.S. Manufacturing Trends from Michigan Manufacturing International (MMI)

With 25 years of experience in manufacturing and international trade, MMI is ideally suited to partner with U.S. manufacturers to help them take full advantage of the winds of change while avoiding the resulting storm.

Stevensville, Md. (PRWEB) January 28, 2016– In a recent interview, Michigan Manufacturing International CEO Jacob Prak provided insight into manufacturing trends for 2016 and beyond.

Manufacturing Buffeted by the Winds of Change

The forces that are causing changes in U.S. manufacturing are currently stronger and more difficult to manage than at any time since the last recession. The price of oil suddenly dropped, which created a depression in the oil and gas industry but simultaneously opened up opportunities in industries that rely on energy. At the same time, a recent change in law now allows for the export of U.S. crude oil and has partially eliminated the price advantage that U.S. refiners and oil and gas users had over their foreign counterparts. The U.S. dollar has been gaining against most currencies but possibly most importantly against the Chinese RMB. Where U.S. manufacturers could seemingly count on Chinese and other foreign competitors’ costs rising relative to their own, now that trend has slowed or reversed. It seems likely that this will accelerate as the Federal Reserve finally begins to tighten the money supply.

Advancing Technology: What it Means for Manufacturing

Just as the competitive landscape is changing for U.S. manufacturers relative to their foreign counterparts, so is the market environment for manufactured goods. Design and manufacturing are becoming simultaneously more automated and more flexible. Real-time information gathering and analysis, often through the internet, are allowing factories to react immediately to changes in conditions or requirements. Continued improvements in design tools permit them to ever more easily interface with production equipment. This has shortened the time and effort required to get from concept to production. One of the main results of these changes is that short production runs of high-quality products have become possible, while long-run production is reaching quality and efficiency standards that were not possible even a few years ago. Conversely, for simple, undemanding, manufactured goods, there has been a democratization of the production process that either has or will drive out established producers.

Survival Strategy

U.S. manufacturers should be aggressive to take advantage of falling costs while at the same time finding new opportunities created by these economic forces. To be successful, companies should:

  • Target those markets that benefit from lower energy and commodity prices such as transportation
  • Modify supply chains to reflect the new realities

Maybe somewhat ironically, international sourcing capability will be an essential component in any U.S. manufacturer’s survival. By intelligently sourcing some inputs from cheaper foreign sources, domestic companies will be able to concentrate on those activities that set them apart and thus continue to generate acceptable rates of return. Also, the commodity price swoon must be reflected in any manufacturer’s cost structure. Finally, U.S. manufacturers must be technology leaders and only produce those things for which they have a unique competency.

As always, those with the best knowledge of their markets from both a supply and marketing point of view will thrive. Geographically unlimited knowledge of customer requirements, production technology and supply chain capability will be indispensable. Those companies with a presence in multiple markets will have an advantage over those that do not. To take full advantage of the strength of the dollar or the relative changes in U.S. versus international energy prices, marketing, sales and purchasing resources need to be properly deployed.

Video Mount Products Selects Michigan Manufacturing International As Manufacturing Partner

MMI offers innovative and cost-effective manufacturing solutions.

Stevensville, Md., April 1, 2015Michigan Manufacturing International was recently selected by Video Mount Products (VMP) to work on its FRM-series products. VMP supplies mounting applications for A/V, communications, and security.

4-1-15_4The challenge was to find a suitable material for VMP’s product that was weather-resistant, paintable, durable, affordable, and readily available. The original specs called for galvanannealed steel but that material is cost-prohibitive and difficult to source in China where MMI has a manufacturing plant.

MMI North China Supply Manager Jarbo Lu worked closely with Regional Sales Representative Jenna Ferguson and the MMI home office team to fully understand VMP’s needs and goals, including the desired properties and qualities and the functionality and features of the final product. Lu proposed using a specially treated carbon steel. This treatment allows paint to adhere to the galvanized steel while maintaining the weather and corrosion resistance desired for outside use. “I happened to know that carbon steel, after acid cleaning and phosphating, has the same matte finish as galvannealed steel. It also allows paint to adhere easily and is very rust proof,” he explained.

4-1-15_2Keith Fulmer, President at Video Mount Products, commented on the project. “MMI’s suggestion to use this new painting process, rather than the galvannealed steel material we originally specified, allowed the per-unit cost to come down.” Fulmer continued, saying, “MMI worked with us on the sample to make sure that we were happy with the product at every step of the way. All feedback regarding quality was listened to and addressed immediately. Communication between MMI and VMP was easy and thorough.”
